Step Process

Here's a quick step by step process of how I draw and finish pictures. This is all 95% done in Photoshop. Last little bit in Paint Tool Sai.

1. Sketch. I always sketch on paper with a pencil, and not with my tablet. Mostly because I cannot draw with my tablet to save my life. I feel like I get more control with a pencil and paper.

2. Line Art. I use the Pen Tool in Photoshop to do my line art. Again, I can't draw with my tablet, so I can't do line art without it looking shaky. Haha. There are tons of pen tool tutorials on dA, it's actually quite an easy tool to use, and your lines are always crisp and clean.

3. Flats. I start filling in the base colours on separate multiply layers. I name all the layers, so I don't confuse myself. ie: Skin, Eyes, Hair, Black, Belts etc. My favorite part to do is the blush. Heehee. The white shine dots are on a normal layer above all the other layers.

4. Shading. Now, for shadows, I lock the layer I want to shade, so that I don't colour outside the area. I rarely do blending, except in this one I did because I thought it looked a little better. For blending I use PAINT TOOL SAI's watercolour brush and just blend upwards on the shadows.

Pretty basic, but now you have an idea of what I do when I draw. It takes approximately 3-4 hours to finish something, because I'm super slow. 8D
